Choose Growth

A new year is here! While it is nothing more than another trip around the sun, flipping over a page on the calendar, a new year represents so much more.

It’s a clean slate. A chance to start fresh. An opportunity to dream. (I know, how cliche!)

Maybe 2017 was great, or perhaps it stunk.

Either way, take time today to celebrate and evaluate your successes and your failures from 2017. Yes, your failures, too. Celebrate them! As Zig Ziglar famously said, “Make failure your teacher, not your undertaker.” I failed a lot last year. But there is always something to learn in those defeats.

What did you learn from both your wins and your losses? Don’t miss the vast benefits from reflecting on what you’ve learned, in both the good and the bad, in the past year. Make the time to put this exercise into practice. It will pay dividends for your personal growth.

Lastly, commit to choosing growth at every opportunity in the new year. In your family life, in your faith, in your business, in your relationships - choose growth.

Abraham Maslow, the influential 20th-century American psychologist, stated, “You will either step forward into growth, or you will step backward into safety.”

Step out of your comfort zone and forward into growth in 2018.

You will either step forward into growth, or you will step backward into safety.
— Abraham Maslow

Start your dream business. Spend more time in prayer or reading your Bible. Invest in your education. Put down your phone and connect with your family or friends. Seek recovery from an addiction. Write a book.

Just start, and keep moving forward.

1... 2... 3... Go!

You will succeed, and you will fail. But most importantly, you will thank yourself a year from now.

Happy New Year!
